In Reading and Language Arts, students have been working on a Life Map.  This activity has been a wonderful way for students to get to know each other and for me to get to know each of them.  ICON students have had some very interesting events in their lives!  The Life Maps started with a graphic organizer in which students generated ideas through brainstorming and discussion with their classmates.  Students were then asked to take their paper home to find out events that had occured in their much younger years.  Today, students began an outline for their life event that was the most important to them and a rough copy of their actual Life Map.  Ask your student to explain their Life Map to you!

Learning Objective:  After completeing the lesson, students will be able to demonstrate understanding by writing three facts about outlines. (An objective in progress).

Welcome 2012-2013 ICONS!  I am Mrs. Inabnit and I will be your Reading and Language Arts teacher for 6th grade.  I have some exciting plans for you this year and I hope that you are ready!

First, a little background info...  I am from Franklin and attended Northwood Elementary, Needham Elementary, Custer Baker Middle School, and Franklin Community High School.  After graduating high school in 2001, I attended Ball State University where I received a degree in English and Secondary Education.  I am pictured below with my husband and my adorable son, Oliver.

What you will be doing this year... in a nutshell...

Reading

In Reading, you will be reading a variety of novels as well as some nonfiction, informational text, and some pieces from your textbook, the Reading Street series.  As a sixth grader, you will continue to practice the art of research (my personal favorite!).

Language Arts

Language will be a combination of different types of writing and grammar skills.  Power Writing and Wordly Wise will be a common practice piece in expanding your writing and spelling abilities.
